Cashew Nut Extract as Water Softener

Written by Loren

FPRDI (Forest Products Research and Development Institute) found cashew nut extract as an alternative water softener.

FPRDI, which is an attached agency of DOST (Department of Science and Technology) found that liquid from cashew nut shell or CNSL can be converted into a biopolymer resin to soften water fed into boilers in different industries. And this biopolymer resin can be a reasonable replacement to imported chemical water softeners.

Water softening is an important process because if the water is hard, this may cause damaging effects on many types of machinery.

Through this CNSL which is environment- friendly, it could help the industries reduce their energy and maintenance cost. [via]
