To help farmers of Magasuso in Barangay Bulo exploit the use of the squash produce, DOST provincial office will train the 35 vegetable farmers on squash making.
According to Dexy Catacutan of Department of Science and Technology (DOST) provincial office, the said training that will be conducted is the response of the office as the members of the Magasuso Vegetable Growers and Animal Raisers Association (MAVEGARA) sought training support from DOST on what to do with their superfluous production in squash.
Experts from DOST’s Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI) will be in charge in training the farmers. Using the technology, the group would produce squash flour out of their ready supply of raw material that would be richer in nutritional contents than the prevailing brands.
This training is expected to provide more opportunities to vegetable farmers to achieve higher profit after experiencing huge losses from the recent typhoons. [via pia.gov.ph]
