To help the City of Pasay manage waste products, DOST (Department of Science and Technology) just turned over bioreactor equipment to be used by the city as an option in converting/utilizing biodegradable wastes into compost.

In the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) held at the Conference Room of the City Mayor's Office, the city government of Pasay express their appreciation as DOST chose them to be the recipient of the said equipment.

In the MOA, DOST will be in charge with the procurement of the bioreactor by recommending accredited fabricators of the said machine. It will also provide training on the operation and maintenance of the bioreactor as well as the technical support (installation, start-up operation, processing, improvement, testing, monitoring, evaluation and assessment, consultancy) throughout the duration of the joint technology promotion activities including the instructional material for the operation of the bioreactor.

In addition, other funds needed for the implementation of the project will be provided by the DOST, while the needed workers in order to make sure the efficient implementation of the project, and access to the designated work area within the LGU-Pasay will be provided by the City Government of Pasay including other expenses such as maintenance and operating expenses.

This project of DOST is in accordance in the R.A. 9003 or Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, wherein it’s stated that there is really a need to set-up a composting facility for biodegrable wastes. [via pia.gov.ph]
