Endoparasitic Load and Antihelmintic Effect of Malunggay in Goats

This study aims to give information about goats (Capra hircus) and endoparasites, and determine if malunggay (Moringa oleifera) has the antihelmintic effect against these endoparasites.

Fecal samples were obtained from 80 goats in eight barangays of Gapan City, Nueva Ecija during daytime. The collected feces were examined using salt flotation technique (SFT) for fecal egg count. Fresh mature leaves were used for the malunggay leaf decoction. The decoction was mixed with the food given to the experimental animals. Fecal samples were taken five days after the treatment.

Lethal Activity of Pansit-Pansitan

This research screens pansit-pansitan (Peperomia pellucida), an herb accepted by the populace as an effective cure for a variety of ailments which, unfortunately was proven to exhibit genetoxicity in the Allium Test. As part of the school’s herbal project, this research assessed the plant’s lethal activity using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Bioassay. The testing involved the exposure of Artemia salina nauplii to different aqueous extract concentrations (10 percent 30 percent, and 50 pecent) of the plant in three serial dilutions. Mortality among nauplii samples was observed for 48 hours in experimental and control groups in three replications, and LC50 value was computed using the Spearman-Karber Method.

Phytochemical Screening of Talahib

The determination of the medicinal values of some plants is due to the presence of some active substances, such as alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, tannins, and anthraquinones. This substance can be found in specific parts of the plants as stem, roots, and leaves. If talahib (Saccharum spontaneum L.) is found to be positive of said substances, then talahib can be a possible source of drug.

Convertible Multipurpose Dryer

This study aims to develop a multipurpose mechanical dryer that uses rice hull and solar energy as power source. The mechanical dryer has two main parts: (1) the furnace/drying bin made of concrete that measures 1.0 meter (m) by 0.75 m by 0.6 m; and, (2) the extended dryer-measuring 1.0 m X 0.75 m X 1.0 m-is made of angle bars, GI sheets, and four layers of perforated screen for drying other crops. The furnace directly under the bin provides the heat when the relative humidity of the air is high.
