Pili Pulp Oil Extraction Technology Builds Up in Sorsogon

Through the effort of Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and its provincial government, the province has developed a technology that offers a simple method of producing oil from pilinut pulp.

The innovation, which is now introduced by DOST, is made up of simple cooking and filtration tools that process oil extracts from freshly harvested pilinuts using minimal heat.

According to Melinda Yee, the leading producer of pilinut pulp oil here, the process retains the aroma and natural green color of pili pulp, and with that, the resulting oil can be considered of premium or virgin quality.

Science and Techno Fair to Hold in Mindanao

DOST (Department of Science and Technology) will showcase S&T products and services nearer to Mindanaoans as it hold Mindanao Cluster S&T Fair on September 23-27 at the SM City Davao.

The said event will show off technology-based products and services developed by Filipino scientists and researchers.

Possible Niche Innovations

During the opening of the DOST Mindanao Cluster Science and Technology Fair in one of the convention centers here September 14, Undersecretary Fortunato Dela Peña of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said that science and technology could well deal with issues on food, alternative energy, environment, biotechnology, information and communication technology and health.

With this year's theme: "Responding to Global Challenges through Science and Technology," DOST (Department of Science and Technology) challenge inventors to find more innovations to work on towards the development of the country.
