Negrenses Succeed for DOST Scholarship

Provincial Coordinator Allan Francis Dara-ug, nine applicants passed the screening, five from Iloilo City and four from Negros Occidental.

Josh Aaron Rongo, Glenmon Liboon, Aga Seminio from Bacolod City and Jhebe imperial of Silay City qualified in the DOST-SEI (Department of Science and Technology Science Education Institute) scholarship 2008.

The scholars will avail of tuition and other school fees plus allowance for prescribed textbooks and essential school supplies per academic year.

 
Biotech Crops to Reduce Hunger in the Philippines

Dr. Rhodora Aldemita, senior program officer of the International Service for the Acquisition of AgriBiotech Applications (ISAAA), is pushing for the propagation of biotechnology crops in the country to help reduce the incidents of hunger and malnutrition.

Aldemita said that biotechnology is the most viable alternative system to boost yields of crops that have been genetically enhanced to provide consumers with adequate nutrients.

 
14-Pronged Programs to Reduce Global Warning

Recently, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo launched its ambitious 14-pronged national program on sustainable development as the country’s contribution to the worldwide campaign to reduce global warming.

With the EO No. 774 PGMA mandated the creation of 14 Task Groups to ensure the "CPR." CPR stands for the conservation, protection and restoration of the country’s natural resources.

 
Philippines' 1st e-trike Surpassed LTO Test

Allan Aguialr, Marilao, Bulacan town councilor and inventor of first electric tricycle, said that e-trike had impressed LTO officials during the testing at its main office in Quezon City.

The e-trike passed the speed and carrying capacity test. Issuance of the orange-colored public transport license plates for the e-trike would come after the LTO inspects the tricycle manufacturing facility in Marialo.

 
DOST Endorses Vegetable Flour

In Easter Visayas, DOST (Department of Science and Technology) regional office just initiated the use of vegetable flour as an alternative to wheat flour.

And as part of the government’s efforts to fast-track the commercialization of new technologies and find alternatives to wheat flour in making noodles and bread, an awareness and seminar on the use of vegetable flour was conducted among bakery operators in the region.
